When I was a raw import from P'deniya to the Ananda staff, the V.P was "Kiththa" who had suceeded M.W.Karunananda who, in turn had taken on the Principalship of Nalanda, my old school. "Kiththa" affected a gruff, tough exterior, not unlike J.Edgar Hoover (without the cigar). Perhaps he HAD to - SA.Wijayatilaka, the Principal was the "parfait gentleman" and I suppose we needed a 'toughie'as his 2 i/c. Much later, when I was in the Navy, the Commanding Officer always affected the personality of the "distant-but-fair" boss while his First Lieutenant was the villain. These were standard personae! Anyway, I got along with both and "Kiththa" pushed me to be Joint Secy. of the PTA and - in spite of my status as the low man on the totem pole - he made me Supervisor of the Post-senior School (Arts). This exposed me to some hilarious secrets that cannot be divulged yet, lest they offend living relatives! The best comic relief was provided by the late Ven. Kotagama Vachissara, better known as "Budu Hamuduruwo".

"Kiththa" was a character and, though we joked about him behind his back, we had a wholesome respect and affection for him. Yes, he was a man in whose shadow I am happy to have grown up in.

dear chulie,
its very touching to read your experiences. let me assure you that things in pakistan are relatively along the same lines as well.
interestingly, the most liberal amongst us look down on women who opt for divorce. there is always the option presented to you that you must patch up no matter how polarized you are as a couple.
but you know what, putting yourself first if only sometimes, is the best thing you can do!
all the best in your chosen life and be an inspiration to others.

I know late Mr. V.C.de Silva former Director PWD and Condrad de Silva well, and about the Kirtisinghe family in Ambalangoda, do I have any connection to the Sellakapuge family in Ambalangoda.

I live in Sydeny, and have four children.

While serching for Sellakapu Family tree I came across this site of Kirtisinghe family of Hikkaduwa. I can remember that when i was around 5 years my mother was warded at Dr. Kirtisinghe Nursing Home in Ambalangoda. She passed awy after 5 days. Dr. kirtisinghe, refuse any charges as my grandmother was a very close relation of his.

I come from the Balapitiya Sellakapu (ge) family. But my mother's mother was a Peduru Hewa lady, closely connected to late Minister Wiliam de Silva.

As we live in Sydney and like to leave my family history for my children, can you please tell me how to get the family roots serched.

My full name is Sellakapu Somawansa Upasiri de Silva.

I am assuming that this site is done by that aunt of mine whose name starts with "Chul"; I am still not sure though this is familiar territory for me. First of all, this is a beautiful creation about a family that has originated in one place and now dispersed far and wide.

When I scrolled down there is that familiar face with two boys and that familiar VW.

I found this beautiful site when I did a search for "Ranil de Silva" and there was this link that mentioned about "Hikkaduwa", "Ranadeva" and "Ranjith" and M. W. R. - all familiar tag lines that would make me look twice.

Must do something similar to at least get our family photos on the web, for posterity.

Great creation,

With warm regards,

Ajit

I just happened to see this blog and I think your pictures are beautiful. I used to know many girls from Jaffna and the name Peraliya sounds so familiar to me, and I wonder where they are now. Please let me know if you know anyone who used to study in WCC, Madras, India between 1967 - 1970.

You write very well, Chulie.
